Michael Emerson

North Park University

Michael O. Emerson is Provost at North Park University in Chicago, acting as the university’s chief academic officer, and Senior Fellow at Rice University’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research. Prior to 2015, he was the Allyn R. and Gladys M. Cline Professor of Sociology and Academic Director of the Kinder Institute. He has authored or co-authored 15 books including, Divided by Faith: Evangelical Religion and the Problem of Race in America; and People of the Dream: Multiracial Congregations in the United States. Emerson holds degrees in sociology from Loyola University (B.A.) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (M.A., Ph.D.).
