First Steps

Georgia Mjartan is now the executive director of First Steps, a non-profit dedicated to offering school readiness services to children and families. For twelve years prior, she served as the executive director at Our House, a Little Rock, AR-based non-profit that empowers homeless and near-homeless families to be successful at work, in school, and in life. With a team of 80 employees, Our House became a nationally recognized “learning lab” for innovative practices under her leadership, to include a top-rated early learning center. In that role, Georgia managed a budget of $3.5 million with grants from 33 private foundations, 14 government contracts (local, state, and federal), 154 corporate donors, 1,051 individual donors and 31 congregations. Our House was recognized as Arkansas’ “Nonprofit of the Year” by Arkansas Business in 2015, and Georgia was personally recognized as one of Southern Living magazine’s “2016 Southerners of the Year.”
